Don Martin Steps Out, Finds Iguana

Leapin' Lizards, Sandy!

POSTED: 3:42 p.m. EDT July 11, 2003

If you're missing an iguana, a Colchester man may have found it for you.

Don Martin stepped out of the office to come home for lunch the other day to discover an iguana sunning itself by his backyard pool. Martin said he's often seen deer and rabbits in his back yard, but this was the first iguana.

"I looked at the back of the pool, I saw what resembled a small alligator running across the top of the pool cover," Martin said.

He called animal control, which caught the two-foot long reptile after a short chase.

"(We) just let him come to one of us so we could catch him," said Colchester animal control officer Gary Francis.

The iguana was taken to a local animal store for care, but if you think it's yours, contact the Colchester Police.
